UNREGULATED AND UNLIMITED: THE FIBER TRENCHING ISSUE

Responsible Fiber Expansion

Current policies allow unlimited trenching by multiple telecom companies competing for market share, leading to duplicative excavations in residential yards. This is far beyond the reasonable intent of private utility easements, which were never intended for unlimited private competition, and impose an unreasonable burden on property owners. The long-term impacts on property, infrastructure, and community safety of these repeated excavations is unknown.

This site provides facts and resources so you can understand the issue, take action, and help protect our neighborhoods. (It went live on 8/25/25 and will continue to be updated.)

We support broadband progress, but it must be guided by clear limits, fair regulation, and coordinated policies. This petition calls on Orange County to pause further trenching until these safeguards are in place.  Please sign the petition below to have your voices heard.
